I love the fact that Brit Marling is still not treading the mainstream market. I know it is kind of selfish to not want her to be the new chic on the block, but I’ve seen a lot of actresses who started in indie movies, sold their souls to the devil and had a major label give them a successful project only to fade into supporting roles then eventually to nothingness. It’s just a sad sight to see. The charisma is no longer there, the creative juice has been sucked out and little miss princess is left all dry and withered. They’re never the same anymore. Brit Marling gives me a sense of anti-mainstream in her though, call her a snob hipster chick, but she just co-wrote, produced and starred in 2 critically acclaimed indie movies of the past 2 years: “Another Earth” and “Sound of My Voice”. She’s like a new hybrid. Enchanting, very charismatic yet still has an air of mystery, exactly like her role as a cult leader in Sound of My Voice (out on dvd). Only time will tell if Marling’s bound to break the curse of indie actresses turned mainstream, but with that air of genius in her I reckon she will go far.
